Form Innovation Inc., Image Conversion Software & Services
Custom Conversion Software & Services

Many conversion projects require special features to fit into an existing business process. We can work with you to develop a customized image conversion solution that matches your exact requirements and budget.

All projects are designed to have the lowest technical risk possible so they can be delivered on time and problem free. All work is quoted on a fixed price contract for your protection.

Please take a look at some of the projects we have implemented.

Conversion projects often require special processing as each file is being converted from one format to another. We can provide customized features such as:

  • Index information extraction from image file headers or associated index blocks in the data stream.
  • Image extraction from larger files that also contain other types of content.
  • Automatic processing of a file directory tree including subdirectories.
  • Automatic output file naming strategies and directory creation.
  • Reading from and/or writing to a database as each file is processed (support for various database types such as ODBC, SQL, MDB, dBASE, CSV, etc.).
  • Source file deletion after successful conversion.
  • Source file move to an error recovery area after unsuccessful conversion.
  • Special exception file handling.
  • Status log file creation.
  • Advanced program features such as multi-threaded applications and interprocess communication.
  • Fault tolerant automatic failure detection and recovery.
  • Processing directly from CD, DVD, optical jukebox or tape (when accessible as a drive through Windows).

Solutions can be provided for both end users who want a ready to run program and developers who want to integrate features into their own custom application. These requirements have been met in a variety of ways:

  • DLLs that are integrated into a client's custom project.
  • Automated batch processing using both GUI and command line programs.
  • Command line processes scheduled to run on servers.
  • Programs that run continuously as a Windows Service.
  • Thread-safe DLLs for servers that support multiple concurrent users.
  • GUI features for users to interact with range of business processes.

We want to work with you! Please contact us to discuss your project requirements. All projects are quoted on a fixed price basis so there are no surprises!

Often document processing systems from different vendors cannot share information. For example, the files created by a scanner may not be the correct format for use in your document management system, or some critical indexing information may be missing. Form Innovation Inc. can provide that middleware or software glue needed to make these pieces work together. Please check out the types of middleware software solutions we offer.

We have delivered numerous custom conversion solutions with a wide range of features to meet the needs of our customers. The project summaries below include some of the diverse projects we have implemented.

  • All pages of a TIFF image file were concatenated into a single page output file. Support for both black & white and color images from various vendors was provided. The page length and size of the output file were limited by the TIFF format.
  • Multiple image files containing drilling logs were merged into a single page output file. The resolution of the output file could be reduced by the user so large files could be sent to customers using cell phones in the field.
  • The image files generated by a Mekel scanner were merged into one multiple page TIFF file using the filenames to determine the page order.
  • Merge multiple images together (as overlays) to create a single page output image file.
  • Rotating inverted images, centering images on a standard page size and inserting text onto an image.
  • PDF files generated by various service bureaus (including EDS using PDFlib) containing multiple scanned image pages per file were converted to TIFF files. The input files were "image only PDF" format (also known as "PDF image only"). Any other type of content in the source PDF files was ignored and was not transferred to the output TIFF file. As part of the processing a text index file was used and an output index file in a different format was created for additional processing by another system.
  • CTX compressed text reports created by a GalaxyPlus Credit Union system were converted to uncompressed text files. The text files were sorted by report type into different folders using information extracted from selected areas of the output files.
  • SQL tables listing the stored images and their position within each Viewstar backfile along with other index information were used to process a set of optical platters. Each platter was processed by finding all the matching index entries in the tables and extracting the images from the backfile archive as TIFF files. As each image was extracted from the platter a new index table entry was generated with the information required to import the TIFF file into the new document management system.
  • Image files and a matching index file received daily via FTP are converted in a batch as scheduled by the server. A daily output directory structure is created where output files are named using their index values, source files are archived, and files with errors are flagged for manual intervention.
  • A utility company processes accounts for over a million customer accounts per month from CDs containing image archives created by Regulus Group for use in an imaging system from Wausau Financial Systems. A set of dBASE format index files present on each CD are used to group invoice and check payment images extracted from the image archives by customer account and multiple page TIFF files are created. Unique file names created using three different index field values supply the information required to import the TIFF files into the document management system.
  • Black and white MODCA format check images are converted to grayscale (greyscale) and reduced in size to fit on bank statements using a variety of page layouts. Each resized image is output in both BMP and EPS format for use by the formatting application.
  • TIFF format memory files containing one check image per file are converted to grayscale and reduced in size. Each resized image is saved in both BMP and EPS format.
  • IOCA format personal check images are reduced to one of four preset sizes, plus the resolution is increased from 200 dpi to 600 dpi. Each image is written in TIFF format.
  • Please visit our prepress image processing page for more details.
  • Designed a solution to import TIFF document batches using FileNET's High-Performance Image Import (HPII) and Mid-Range Image Import (MRII) utilities (designed but not implemented).
  • Some customers prefer to have us process their images directly from a set of CDs or DVDs they send to us. In this case the conversion software is supplied as part of this service so there is no additional license to purchase. Any type of special support files can be created during the file processing to assist with importing the converted files into the target document management system. An added benefit is that a full backup of both your source and converted files is created for archival purposes.

Please contact us to discuss the best conversion solution for your project. All work is quoted on a fixed price basis.
